Gain a deeper understanding of the spiritual disciplines through the ancient practice of Lectio Divina

Christians have used Lectio Divina for centuries to deepen their relationship with God.

It is a slow, contemplative way of reading the Bible that emphasizes listening to God’s word rather than just reading it.

You will practice Lectio Divina to strengthen your faith during the Holy Season of Lent.

The practice is usually done with a specific passage of scripture and is broken down into four steps:

Step 1: Ingest (Lectio)

The first step is to read the passage of scripture slowly and attentively, paying attention to any words or phrases that stand out to you. 

Step 2: Digest (Meditatio)

You read it a second and third time with curiosity. Then you reflect on the meaning of the words and phrases that stood out to you.

Rest in God’s presence, allowing yourself to be open to whatever thoughts or feelings emerge.

Step 3: Nourish (Contemplatio)

Next, allow the scripture to speak to you and be open to what God may be saying to you through it.

Allow God’s word to shape your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Step 4: Grow (Oratio)

The final step is to thank God for His guidance, wisdom, and nourishment. Feed on His word all throughout the day.
